How do common chemicals in furniture, electronics and takeout containers affect female thyroid levels?

Discover Dr. Trowbridge's research on that topic and more – including the effects of chemicals used during fighting fires on women firefighters – in this video. Learn about her background growing up in polluted areas that influenced her decisions to become the scientist she is today.

Jessica Trowbridge, PhD., UCSF

Dr. Jessica Trowbridge’s curiosity about the impact of exposure to environmental chemicals on health came out of her experience living binationally and experiencing the environmental burdens of pollution in her communities in central Mexico and Richmond, California.

In her current position with the Program on Reproductive Health and the Environment at UCSF, Dr. Trowbridge studies prenatal exposure to toxic environmental chemicals and infant neurodevelopment. Through her research, Dr. Trowbridge aims to fill critical evidence gaps that can improve policies and education reducing toxic exposures in vulnerable populations.

Dr. Trowbridge studied environmental health sciences at the University of California, Berkeley. She is currently a researcher at the University of California, San Francisco.
