Burning plastic releases a cocktail of air pollutants linked to asthma, cancers, and endocrine disruption — especially in the low-income communities that house many of these facilities. And still, the narrative of innovation persisted, bolstered by millions in lobbying and slick campaigns promising a “circular economy.”
